Hostos Community College

Dear Professor Stemberg,

My name is Osvaldo Tapia and I am a electrical engineer major at Hostos Community College in the Bronx. My main focus in the future after graduating is starting my own electrical business alongside my friend who is also in this career. We plan on doing this by the start of next year. My family is originally from Mexico and I was born in the Bronx. My family comes from agriculture and trading, They don’t have any engineering jobs. It was never easy to grow up here as there was so much violence and drugs going around. Fortunately it did not affect me but it did to people around me. I guess my biggest success is to be alive and to have not fallen to drug addiction or violence. Some engineering challenges I have had are not being too familiar with any of the methods or work. I have never been around these new methods and it takes an extra step in order to learn and get familiarized with it. But once I get used to it I learn quick and get the job done. What I hope to get from this class is to learn about the way engineers write in more of a technical way. I am used to regular English classes so this will be a challenge. Very eager to learn more about Technical Writing.

Sincerely,

Osvaldo Tapia

Group Notes- Final Project

Magnetic charger that loses magnetic charge once the battery is full from charging. So the device will have the adapter already connected and the magnet will stick to the battery. There will be a light that will indicate charge. Once the battery is charged the device will loose the magnetic force. – Felix April,3 2023.

First idea would be of a box that allows batteries to charge, in case of the battery getting on fire the bbox would be able to supress the fire and stop it from burning anything around it.

Professor told us to start thinking of other ideas that would help this as well, she mentioned a charging brick that would stop the fires from even beginning. When the group investigated further we found that the idea was already there. Problem is that it is a hundred dollars. The proposal that we have drafted at the moment is based on asking people for contributions by showing them our strenghts and our plans.

What would be the next step is to write about the problems that have risen from batteries not being safe. We would need to collect data on the amount of incidents that have taken place due to these batteries. We would also need to write more on the innovation that we need to bring up. It is up to a couple of things and our group hasn’t decided which one will be the main focus. If we can write about various options than that would be ideal. Our plan to make the presentation reach the goal of 15 minutes is to engage our audience by asking questions listening to them and then presenting the slides while also still engaging them at the same time.

Basic Elements of a Lab Report

Eight Basic Elements Of a lab Report

Title- Here goes the title of the lab report it can be accompanied by your name, school name and date. Depends on the format.

Abstract- Here we write  a brief summary of the project and we should write about what we are trying to figure out as well as what results were found. And how we use these results.

Introduction-Here we analyze the problem being addressed and we find put the hypothesis.

Methods- In this element we focus on the steps that took place and we write down all the materials that we used. We list these steps usually with bullet points.

Results- Here we write the results that were found in the experiment. We can post graphs pictures, and figures.

Discussion- In the discussion we discuss the most important part of the lab report. Here we write about the results and how any errors might have occurred how could we have fixed them.

Conclusion- Here we summarize the whole experiment and write about what we have learned about this whole experiment.

Reference- Here we post all the outside sources we have used and cite the paper. This part is important if any of the ideas where not yours it is considered plagiarism if you don’t cite them in this section.

Website Group Notes

Group- Osvaldo, Felix, Christian, Justin

Our Audience- Our audience will be current college students, parents, professors, minorities, upcoming college students.

Purpose- is to engage our audience to be in a melting pot of cultures that they would not experience outside their home.

Each student will write a page on a culture that represents them as well as a culture that they

We will be making a club on the culture different types of cultures that are in the college. This will be a safe space where people can learn and discover about culture. It will also be a website where other people can write about their culture in the comments.  The website is designed to show people the different cultures.

Osvaldo Tapia will be writing on Mexican culture.

Christian will be writing on Costa Rican culture.

Felix will be writing on Dominican culture.

Challenge will be finding a method for people to showcase their culture. This would have to be approved by an admin who would constantly be monitoring the website.

Technical Description

Technical Description: AC Adapter

Technical Writing ENG 202

March 7, 2023

The AC adapter is an object that is used for many components in our devices. This ranges from

laptops, cameras, speakers and many more. The history goes back to the year 1928 when Philip

F. Labre patented a design for a socket and plug that used pins. This is the design that we have

used for adapters now. Although this was not the first attempt to try this as previous designs

were also created by Harvey Hubbell who patented three designs that also use pins to use on

lamps In 1969 a US company designed a power supply that looks like the power strips we use today. The inventor was Robert Khan and he worked for the company Fedtro

The AC adapter has evolved and it is a design that has hundreds of different variations. It has

different voltage current capacity. The plugs can be same yet they have different voltage

current capacities. The AC adapter being explained here is for the simple design that we all

have in our houses. The one that is laying down at the bottom of you’re closet. We must have

more than a couple laying down. A simple AC adapter consist of a transformer, rectifier and

electronic filter.

This is the common AC adapter that is used to charge a laptop. It is explained in this form, the

electricity passes through a transformer which in return lowers the voltage to the intended

voltage resistance of the adapter. The rectifier turns the AC current into DC current. Then the

filter is used to make the waves turn into DC current. The most common AC adapters can

receive from 90- 250 volts of AC. Having these clunky objects have their advantages as well.

Some include safety, this is because manufacturers don’t have to worry about hazards from

having the power supply inside the equipment. It also removes the heat from the equipment

away as the power supply is built outside the equipment the heat is away from the equipment.

This can lead to malfunction of the equipment.
